Assignments
Practical Lab Component (10%)There will be several technology tasks assigned throughout the course. Some will be technology-skill building assignments, whereas others may be assessment/critique related. Technology tasks will be listed in numerical order (e.g., tech task #1, tech task #2), week-by-week, and the course schedule will list specific details for their satisfactory completion. Each tech-task is assessed as pass/fail, and completion deadlines will span one week from the listing date (e.g., if a tech task appears in week #3, it must be completed by the beginning of week #4). Class Participation (10%)Class participation and regular (online) attendance are key components to success in a hands-on learning environment. ECMP 455 relies on this style of delivery in order to ensure the achievement of learning goals and objectives for its students. Therefore, this element plays a key role in evaluating learning targets and is weighted appropriately. In ECMP 455, students are expected to participate in the online discussion forums, the group blog and assigned chat/webtrain sessions. And through these various media, students must show evidence of having studied assigned readings. Class participation marks are not 'given away', they are to be taken seriously and are earned by the thoughtful work of students. Personal Blog (15%)Through a personal blog, students should show evidence of assigned and independent reading, synthesis of thought streams and the continual writing/reflection of material relevant to ICT integration in the classroom. Interaction with other bloggers and their writing will be important for success Written Component (20%) A theoretical background in Educational Technology is an important component
of this course. This is perhaps most apparent when teachers using technology
are faced with issues regarding the use of technology in the classroom.
This assignment is designed to allow students to research important issues
in the classroom around technology and arrive at thoughtful solutions.
The detailed assignment can be found here
Major Project (25%)Possible topics for the Final Project are available here. The general assessment rubric for the Final Project is found here. Note: this rubric may change depending on the student's choice of final project, however in most cases, the rubric is found to be satisfactory for assessment. Electronic Portfolio (20%)The student will develop a professional electronic portfolio. The process will involve several stages including: introduction to personal web pages, exploration and classification of web pages, research of proper guidelines for electronic portfolios, planning and delivery of the professional portfolio, consultation with the instructor, and finally, creation. Additionally, with the creation of the electronic portfolio, students will collect and compile important paper records of articles, technology related resources, course work, etc. in helping to demonstrate learner progress and growth within this course. In this manner, process is evaluated quite heavily, and overall product to a lesser extent. The Electronic Portfolio will consist of both an electronic version (e.g., webpage) and a more comprehensive binder of collected resources and work. The assessment sheet for the Electronic Portfolio assignment is found here (this will be updated). General guidelines for Electronic Portfolios for Teacher Education students can be found here. There is no final exam for ECMP 455. |
