Some Possible Project Topics for ECMP 355

Note:  Most of the projects here, with a few exceptions, are only expected to be partially completed for the purposes of assessment for this class.  However, what does need consideration and clarification is the student and instructor’s expectation for each project.  Once the student has decided on a project topic, the student will submit a proposal to the instructor.  The approved proposal will serve as the frame of reference for assessment.  Remember: structure and quality is more important than recklessness and quantity.  The topics may seem intimidating, but they are chosen to serve as springboards to larger initiatives.  This is by no means a complete list of ideas.  Please discuss other possibilities with your instructor.

Topics:

1)                  Teacher website – an extended teacher resource for yourself, and for future teachers, highlighting specific areas of your profession, subject areas, technology in education, etc.

2)                  Technology E-zine – Electronic magazine that could keep the teaching community current on technology in education trends and issues.  This can be an electronic journal, which could have contributions from other teachers, schools, boards, etc.  Available electronically, or in print (Publisher, Word, or PDF format).

3)                  Projects in Specific Curriculum Areas – A self contained instructional unit, including resources, which are printable, linkable, or searchable.  Should maintain strong Sask. curriculum approach.  Be sure to ensure integrity of instructional design.

4)                  Projects in Specific Software or Applications – Extensive projects in HyperStudio, Office 97, Adobe Photoshop, Front Page, Kids Pix, Netscape or Explorer (Surfing the Web), etc.  Packaged and ready to teach.

5)                  IT Staff Development Workshop – Preparation of a staff development workshop including:  measuring tools for needs assessment, resources (human, space, hardware, software, and media), themes, topics, timeframes, etc.  Also, plans for continuation of short and long-term professional development needs.

6)                  School/Client Webpage – Partner with a school or other community group, and plan, prepare, process, and produce the institutions’s web presence.  A rewarding journey with a lot of preparation and time necessary.

7)                  Distance Education/Virtual Environments/Home Schooling – Explore the world of alternative educational delivery, and examine the issues, trends, barriers, advantages, disadvantages, etc. of each and bring forth solid, founded conclusions in an innovative manner.

8)                  Develop a Course Page Online – Create a webpage for a course of your choice.   Include objectives, lessons, on-line resources, and other appropriate media, which would further teaching and learning of the key concepts.

9)                  Advanced Exploration of Technology in Your Subject Area – Explore what teachers are doing in the classroom; compile the best of/worst of, supply recommendations using established criteria reference of what you think teachers should be doing.

10)              Exploration of Multimedia/Digital Video for a SPECIFIC purpose – Founded strongly in a subject area, use multimedia/digital video to produce an instructional/theoretical unit on areas of your subject area.  Be sure to use technology in an appropriate and necessary manner (i.e. Use technology only when it does something fundamentally better than an other method).

11)             CAP Volunteer (Community Access Project)/Reflection – Become a mentor/trainer with a Community Access Program (e.g. Regina Community Clinic).  Produce both a lesson/material for the day, as well as provide a reflective document that suitably outlines the experience.

12)              Software/Website Review Site – Create a site which features education software or website reviews for a wide audience, or to a specific target audience (subject area or grade).

13)              WebQuest Creation – Create a Webquest on a topic of your choice for a classroom.  Be sure to study WebQuest design and follow (somewhat) the template model for construction.  Be creative.

14)             Topic of your Choice – Got a better idea?  Would love to hear it!

Submission Details:  The assignment will be due on the announced Final Exam date.  The assignment can be handed in (paper, cd, disk), but in most cases, linked directly to the student Electronic Portfolio.
