Electronic Portfolio Evaluation Criteria

 

The following criteria comprise the total evaluation for the electronic portfolio in ECMP 355:

CONTENT

 

___  Information is complete but not excessive or redundant

___  Information is well organized and clearly labeled

___  All text has correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

___  Author of the page is clearly identified

___  Information is informative, interesting, and worthwhile

___  Content is related to the function and mission of user.

___  Content and links are suitable to expected audience.

___  There is no use of jargon

 

VISUAL DESIGN

 

___  The site has a consistent look.

___  Pages have only one or two fonts (unless otherwise justified).

___  Each page uses a limited number of colors, especially for text (unless otherwise justified).

___  Type colors/styles and text-to-background contrast have been selected for good readability.

___  Each page is limited to approximately 2-3 screens; the most important information is on top.

___  The pages are simple and attractively designed; they make a user want to read the information.

___  Use and navigation should be intuitive.

___  Images should not be used for pure decoration, but should help convey information

___  Large or complex pages, typically those larger than 10 screens, should be divided into multiple, smaller files

___  Every page should have a short, informative, descriptive title

___  Key (or all) pages should have standard footers, including:

-          date of last update

-          email address or link to email form which can be used to contact a responsible party regarding

the content of a page

-          link to appropriate home page

 

NAVIGATION

 

___  Pages have a simple, consistent navigation scheme to let users get to desired places quickly and easily.

___  Documents should be designed to minimize users' reliance on browser navigational aids (e.g., back and forward buttons, history lists)

___  The first page (or selected content page) clearly indicates clearly how the site is organized and how to get to items of interest.

___  Links (text and icons) are easy to identify.

___  Each supporting page has a link back to the home (or to content) page.


GENERAL

___  Student has followed the guidelines set forth by the instructor in terms of content.

___  Student demonstrates originality through the web design process.

___  Student demonstrates professional use of web content.

___  Student has not overused particular elements (such as animated gifs, backgrounds, etc.)

___  General first impression of the site (visually)

___  Elements (graphics, pages, etc.)  should not take too long to load (where possible).
