The Faculty of Education at the University of Regina is seeking applications from suitably qualified individuals for a tenure track position in the field of Educational Administration and Adult Education/Human Resource Development effective July 1, 2010. 

These program areas offer a number of courses including a 5-course certificate in Adult Continuing Education, and a 10-course certificate in Human Resource Development.   These laddered certificates are offered in conjunction with the University’s Credit Studies Division of the Centre for Continuing Education.  Courses comprising the certificate in Adult Continuing Education have been developed to be taught face-to-face or on-line.  Within the Faculty of Education, the program offers Master’s degrees in Adult Education and Human Resource Development through thesis, project and course-based routes. In addition, successful candidates will be expected to contribute to educational administration and core studies courses.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a PhD in the field of Adult Education/Human Resource Development and be able to teach at the certificate and graduate level.   Experience in the field of Adult Education and/or Human Resources is also expected. 

Salary Range:
Depending on qualifications and experience, normally in the Assistant Professor range ($72,567-$93,831).

Offerings in Educational Psychology emphasize training and research in general guidance and counselling activities. The Education Psychology area (which is most heavily involved in programs for guidance and counselling) represents a broad spectrum of interests. Within the Faculty of Education, the program offers Master’s and doctoral degrees. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute at both the undergraduate and graduate level, including core studies courses.

RESPONSABILITÉS
Les responsabilités initiales de ce poste comprendront :

-    la supervision de stagiaires dans les écoles

EXIGENCES
On donnera la préférence aux candidat.e.s qui possèdent (ou auront bientôt terminé) un doctorat en éducation (PhD ou EdD) dans un domaine relié à la formation à l’enseignement en situations linguistiques minoritaires francophones. Dans le cadre scolaire, le ou la candidat.e idéal.e a déjà travaillé pendant plusieurs années en situations linguistiques minoritaires francophones. Bilingue, cette personne a une forte compétence en français oral et écrit ainsi que des compétences fonctionnelles en anglais. Le ou la candidat.e a mis en place un dossier de recherche et de publications par rapport aux enjeux en situations linguistiques minoritaires francophones. Ce dossier démontre un engagement actif et prometteur. Dans son approche professionnelle, la personne est à la fois autonome et capable de travailler en équipe.

Position: The Baccalauréat en éducation (Le Bac) Program of the Faculty of Education is seeking to fill a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of minority language education – Francophone schools.

The Bac offers a direct-entry, four-year teacher education program in French to those seeking future employment in French language schools, including French immersion, Francophone, and Core French programs. The quality of the Bac Program is well recognized. Its graduates easily find employment throughout Canada and abroad. The Program adopts a collegial and collaborative approach to the professional development of pre-services teachers. It values the opportunity for its students to work with practitioners in the field through various practical teaching experiences.

Duties:  The successful candidate will:
•    teach in French undergraduate courses in teaching methods and foundations in Francophone minority schools at the elementary level (K-8) and secondary (9-12) levels
•    supervise students during school practicum experiences
•    assume active involvement in the Bac Program group
•    engage in scholarly research and publication
•    supervise graduate students and teach in the Maîtrise en éducation française graduate program.

Qualifications:  The successful candidate will possess or be near completion of an earned doctorate degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) with an academic focus on Francophone education in minority language contexts. The ideal candidate will have worked a number of years in a Francophone minority school setting. Bilingual, this person has especially strong written and oral French skills while being able to demonstrate a working knowledge of written and spoken English. The candidate must also have an active research agenda and publication record related to Francophone minority education. In terms of professionalism, the person sought must be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR SESSIONAL LECTURERS IN THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION

The Faculty of Education requires the services of Sessional Lecturers for the Winter 2010 semester. A Sessional Lecturer appointment involves teaching one or more courses in the Faculty. Please note that not all courses advertised may need to be filled because of changing staffing circumstances that may arise in the Faculty after the date of this advertisement. Sessional needs will be posted on the Faculty web site for each semester. This will normally be in May for the Fall semester, October for the Winter semester, and February for the Spring/Summer semester.

Duties: The successful applicant for each course will teach the course as outlined in the official Faculty course outline or outline provided by the subject area. All of the advertised courses are 3 credit hours (3 hours of contact per week over the semester) although a few may have additional lab or seminar contact hours (sessionals are paid for additional contact hours). All new sessional lecturers will be expected to attend an orientation seminar at the beginning of the semester.

Qualifications: Normally applicants will have a Masters degree in Education appropriate to the area of instruction. Applicants will also have experience in the education system appropriate to the content of the course applied for, knowledge of and experience with the Saskatchewan curriculum, knowledge and experience with Faculty of Education programs, and current knowledge of issues related to course applied for. University teaching is an asset.

Appointment Categories and Compensation: (as of July 1, 2009)

Sessional Lecturer I: Bachelor’s degree : $5,691

Sessional Lecturer II: Master’s degree, or an Honour’s degree or equivalent and has taught 12 three credit hour courses at the University of Regina since July 1/02 : $5,945

Sessional Lecturer III: PhD or other terminal degree, or Master’s degree and has taught 15 three credit hour courses at the University of Regina since July 1/02 : $6,451

The Professional Development and Field Experience Office is seeking applications for several part time sessional supervisor positions in the 2009-2010 academic year (September - December 2009 and/or January - April 2010). Successful candidates will be assigned to supervise pre-interns and intern student teachers placed in schools throughout the province and assist as leaders at the internship seminars for interns and their cooperating teachers. They will act as liaison persons for the Faculty and offer resource guidance and support.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- a minimum of five years of K-12 recent teaching experience and a valid Saskatchewan Teaching Certificate;
- a M.Ed. Degree; a B.Ed. Degree plus experience with University of Regina student supervision; or equivalent;
- proven ability and skill in working with teachers, pre-interns, interns and adult groups;
- proven ability to problem solve and collaborate;
- willingness and ability to travel and stay overnight in remote areas during the week
- needs to have access to e-mail
- needs to be available to visit schools during the scheduled field experiences

A working knowledge of the University of Regina, Faculty of Education program is considered an asset.

SALARY:

Commensurate with the number of student teachers supervised as per the contracted agreement negotiated by the University of Regina Faculty Association Bargaining Unit. All appointments are subject to budgetary approval.
